Shockwave Therapy
Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT), commonly referred to as Shockwave Therapy, is a non-invasive technique that uses high frequency mechanical vibration in the form of radial pressure waves. Shockwave therapy allows us to stimulate the body’s natural mechanisms for healing, and can be particularly effective in tissues that are slow to heal or where healing has stalled. The radial pressure waves stimulate regenerative changes in the target tissue, which include:
Increasing the body’s release of natural metabolites that help prevent pain and resolve inflammation.
Stimulating the formation of new capillaries (angiogenesis), allowing for improved blood flow to the targeted tissues which results in improved healing and healthier tissue.
Reducing the contractile over-activity of muscles and breaking neuro-cognitive pain patterns, which helps resolve muscle spasms and pain form myofascial trigger points.
Dampening the communication of pain signals going to the brain, via the Pain Gait Control Mechanism, thus making it an effective way to decrease pain.
